about
"West Coasting" is CJ Boyd's meditation on what it means to be "Alternative." This attempt at a grunge era "covers album", re-worked and scrambled into two 20-minute atmospheric movements pays tribute to the influential music of his adolescence, while still approaching the birthplace of "the alternative" in an alternative way.

I recorded most of this music myself, while on tour, at a number of locations, relying on the generosity and hospitality of numerous wonderful folks in the latter half of 2010. Some of those places were:
The Tsegorium, courtesy of Thomas Giry in Brussels, Belgium;
René Bage's apartment in Berlin, Germany;
Tom and Cori Lake's dining room in Rochester, NY;
Third Degree Studio, courtesy of Jon Francis & Robert Ryan in Asbury Park, NJ;
The Glass House, courtesy of Chris Baker in Lynchburg, VA;
Nelly Kate Anderson's studio in Staunton, VA;
Mickey Arefaine's living room in Charlottesville, VA;
Lindsay Lee's room at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY; .
The home studio of Jim and Leslie Edwards in Austin, TX;
The Firehouse, courtesy of Maria Gonzalez and Danielle Westcott in
Kansas City, Missouri.
I have very likely forgotten a place or two, for which I apologize.
I originally intended to do all of the mixing and mastering on it too, but I eventually yielded to my better judgment and got some much appreciated help from Michael O'Shea at Solotechne Studios in Fletcher, NC.
