about

"Every time I don the ski mask" is a line from an essay by Antonio Negri called "Domination and Sabotage," which can be found in a book called "Books for burning: between civil war and democracy in 1970s Italy". The book is about refusing to work at jobs that are not rewarding and meaningful, and it presents powerful insights on the importance of destroying the machine that makes such worthless work the status quo. I have massive respect for Toni Negri, who, unlike so many other academics, believes in getting dirty, getting in touch with people at all levels of society, and tearing capitalism down by force if necessary. "Nothing reveals the immense historical positivity of the workers' self-valorization more completely than sabotage, this continual activity of the sniper, the saboteur, the absentee, the deviant, the criminal that I find myself living. I immediately feel the warmth of the workers' and proletarian community every time I don the ski mask...Nor does the happiness of the result escape me: every act of destruction and sabotage resounds upon me as a sign of class fellowship. Nor does the probable risk disturb me: on the contrary, it fills me with feverish emotion, like waiting for a lover."
